(SAT) about taking test in the morning

4 min read

We’ve received quite a few questions from parents, so I’d like to provide some clarification once again.

As I mentioned during the seminar, even students who normally perform very well can see their scores drop by around 100 points when taking the SAT at 8:00 AM. We have been aware of this pattern for quite some time.

Currently, about 30–40% of our students show a noticeable difference in their scores depending on whether they take the test at 10:00 AM, at home, or at 8:00 AM at the academy. However, once students become accustomed to taking the test at 8:00 AM, most of them return to their normal scores.

The reason is simple. Many students wake up at 7:45 AM and begin testing almost immediately after opening their eyes. In addition, many students simply have difficulty concentrating early in the morning.

For this reason, please start helping your children develop the habit of going to bed earlier and waking up earlier. Please also make sure they have at least a light breakfast before coming in for the test. These small daily habits can make a significant difference when it comes to reaching 1500+.

We are also aware of this issue, which is why we are having students practice taking tests at 8:00 AM. There is no need to worry—we are preparing them for the actual test environment.

We have also received questions from some parents asking, “If the students’ scores are going up, are the tests getting easier?”

I want to make it clear that this is not the case.

Now that we are in Weeks 7–8, the tests we provide are actually becoming more difficult each day. We do not intentionally give easier tests at the end to make students’ scores go up. In fact, it is a normal part of the learning process for students’ scores to improve even while they are taking increasingly difficult tests.

With more than 100 students currently scoring 1500+ at our academy, giving easier tests at this stage would actually be counterproductive. Students could come in, take the test, and have very little left to learn or analyze afterward. That is why we are providing more challenging tests during this final stage of preparation.

The reason scores continue to improve despite the increasing difficulty is simple: when students take a test every day, analyze their mistakes, and consistently work on their weaknesses, their skills naturally improve.

So please do not worry if the tests are getting harder while the scores are still going up. In fact, improving scores on increasingly difficult tests is a strong indication that the students’ actual skills are improving.

It is also completely normal for SAT scores to fluctuate from test to test. This is why students in the U.S. typically take the SAT 3–4 times, with the goal of achieving their best possible score.

Rather than thinking, “I need to take the test once and be done,” please encourage your children to keep taking the SAT until they reach the score they are aiming for. One test score does not define a student’s ability, and there is no reason to give up an opportunity based on a single result.

Our students have worked incredibly hard, and we are very proud of all of them.

There is only one week left.

Please continue to encourage and support your children so they can stay focused and give their best effort through the very end.

Let’s finish strong!
